Lake Naomi – Timber Trails Arts and Crafts Show

Please read!  There is a lot of new information .......... 

The 'big day' is almost here - Saturday, August 7, 10:00 - 5:00 at Logan Steele Community Center.  Everything is in place and I hope that we can count on everyone supporting all the efforts and work that has gone into this… "LAKE NAOMI-TIMBER TRAILS ARTS AND CRAFTS SHOW"!

We have 56 vendors coming with all their wonderful handcrafted art work.  There will be something for everyone!  There will be everything from art to pottery, furniture, stained glass from small stained glass to stained glass windows, woodworking, baskets, Irish fabrics, fused glass, custom note paper, jewelry, homemade candy, stuffed animals.  There will also be demonstrations in woodcarving, basket making, spinning and making fabric.

Helmets For Life

Helmets For Life is a campaign to raise awareness regarding the importance of wearing a helmet for a variety of recreational sports including: Skateboarding, skiing, snowboarding, roller skating, ice skating, riding a bicycle or scooters.

On July 31, 2009, Kevin Kret fell while skateboarding to a neighbor’s house causing him to sustain a traumatic brain injury.

Today  Kevin remains in a vegetative state.  Thankfully, he has been able to come home to be cared for by his nurse, family and friends.  Please pray for his recovery.

 

Timber Trails Golf Update

The Junior Club Championship scheduled for Saturday, July 31st has been rescheduled for Saturday and Sunday August 7th and 8th.  The 7 to 13 year old division will play only 9 holes on Saturday and the 14 to 17 year old division will play 9 holes both Saturday and Sunday. 

The Golf Banquet and Social will take place Sunday August 22nd. Cash Bar starts at 6:00 PM and the Dinner will be served at 7:00. The cost is $35.00 per person.

Evening of Broadway Show Tunes

An Exciting Evening of Broadway Show Tunes presented by "Crazy For Broadway" will be held at the Congregation B’nai Harim on Saturday, August 14th starting at 7:30 PM.  The cost is $30 for Adults and $15 for children ages 13 and under.  The Congregation B’nai Harim is located on Sullivan Road and Rte 940.  For more information call 646-0100 or 646-1179.



Open Water Swimming

This year Club Beach began offering Open Water Swimming on Saturday evenings from 6:00 – 7:00 PM.  Swimmers meet in the Sailing Office located on the beach level of the Lake Naomi Clubhouse at 5:50 PM to register and swim a marked course with a dedicated Safety Boat nearby.  The last Saturday for swimming in the lake is August 14th.  Don’t miss your chance to swim with other Masters at a time set aside just for honing your open water swimming skills.

Congratulations to Bob Swanzey for acing the second hole here at Timber Trails Golf Club, witnessing the great shot was Marie Swanzey and their Grandson Andrew Ryan.  Bob used an 8 iron on the 108 yard hole.

In the Junior Golf League Competition Luke Cappellano took the honors with a great round of 45,finishing second was Bobby Rigby Shooting 47,Third place went to Matt Zeng with a 54.

The Junior Club Championship will be held on Saturday, July 31st with a 3:00 PM shotgun start.  Come early to enjoy the cookout from 1:30 PM till 2:30 PM.  The 8 to 13 year olds will play nine holes with the 14 to 17 year olds playing 18 holes.

Junior Club Championship Tournament

The 2010 Tournament will take place from Friday, July 30th through Sunday, August 1st.  Junior (12yrs of age and under) and Teen (13-17 yr olds) will play Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles in this all inclusive weekend.

Registration Deadline for participation is Sunday, July 25th at 3:00PM.  The $15 per Gold Member and $20 per Silver Member entry fee is for the entire tournament.

Awards will be presented at the conclusion of each Final Match.

Lifeguard Olympics held at the LNC

For the past three years the Lake Naomi Club lifeguards have participated in the Pocono Lifeguard Olympics and in the past three years the LNC Guards have taken home the trophy and earned the bragging rights for being “the best” guards in the area.  This year the Pocono Lifeguard Olympics will be held at the Lake Naomi Pool on Wednesday, August 4th at 6:00 PM.  The events varied from back boarding, swim relay races, saves, one mile run, tug of war and much more. This will be a great event to watch.  Be sure to come out and support our lifeguards as they defend their title….  



PRESS RELEASE………..from the HATT

The Historical Association of Tobyhanna Township (HATT) recently announced plans for its annual excursion. On Tuesday, September 14 attendees will visit the Nemours Estate located in Wilmington Delaware, as well as a visit to the prestigious Simon Peace Restaurant in West Chester, PA. This trip is open to the public. Membership in HATT is not required.

Lifeguards MUST clear the water of swimmers and boaters (including the indoor pool) in cases of dangerous weather conditions as follows:
Water must remain clear for 15 minutes after LAST thunder is heard.
Area must remain clear for 30 minutes after LAST lightening is seen.
This policy is in place for the safety of our Members, Guests and Staff.  We thank you for your cooperation.


“Pocono Pines ... Then & Now”


Club Members will be interested in a new book authored by Lake Naomi resident Fred Lehrer.   Many LNC Members participated in its writing, both by furnishing their own area photographs, and by contributing to the historical narrative.

“Pocono Pines ... Then & Now” makes history fun to read!  Featuring over 100 vintage photographs and corresponding contemporary views, the book documents the evolution of our town from its founding in the late nineteenth century until the present day.  Accompanying text provides the most comprehensive history of the area available in one volume.  Exhibits include interpretive maps and a tabular chronology. 

 

Clymer Library House Tour

 

Tickets are now available at the library for the Clymer Library House Tour which will take place on Wednesday, August 4, 2010. 

All proceeds benefit the library. 

For lunch at the Lake Naomi Clubhouse & Tour the cost is $30.

Tour only is $15.



Inter Club Tennis Play

Four dates for Men’s Doubles interclub play have been scheduled with Pinecrest.. 
Wednesday, 8-4 @ Pinecrest 10AM
Wednesday, 8-11 @ Lake Naomi 11AM
Please sign up at the Lake Naomi Tennis Center if your interest in playing.  Tennis Committee Member Lew Rarig will be getting teams together for the exchange.

Help Local Church with Recycling Fund Raiser

The Mt. Pocono United Methodist Church is raising funds by collecting various items to be recycled.  The items they are collecting include: cell phones, laptop computers, Inkjet cartridges, MP3 players, jewelry, digital cameras, GPS, and radar detectors.  There is a blue drop box located on the left side of the Community Center entrance.  So clean out your closets, recycle the unwanted items and help a local church. 



Ladies Team Tennis

Ladies Team Tennis will be played Friday mornings from July 9th to August 6th.  Six teams will play against opponents of similar levels in a doubles competition format each week and accumulate scores for the season.  The season ends with a luncheon in the Lake Naomi Clubhouse on August 13th.  Signup registration deadline is Friday, July 2nd at 3:00 PM.  Registrations are taken in person or by phone at the Tennis Center and must include the $15 registration fee.

A crew from Travel Nation TV spent the day in Lake Naomi –Timber Trails last summer capturing the uniqueness of the Club.  Their efforts are now being showcased on You Tube.

TRAVEL NATION is a fun filled fast paced half hour program focusing on shopping, sightseeing and everything related to worldwide traveling. The program educates viewers on where to go and how to get there. Get the best deals on everything from local goods to cultural commodities and discover places to stay and see, we have the inside scoop. Plus, travelers are introduced to tips and tricks that make traveling to a special destination an unforgettable experience.
